BISHOP MACK? PREMO RICE? WHO?

So guys, this article is long overdue, but I just had to do my due diligence on determining how cold this music is. Shoutout to the homie Kieland for the [alley] oop on this one—buddy without a doubt put me onto a vibe with Premo Rice. Would y’all believe my girl was low-key confused when I scooped her up from the airport listening to all this ‘pimpin’’. In the past few weeks, I’ve listened to everything released publicly; however, it just ain’t enough! @PremoRice, we need more music bro, ASAP. Yeah, I know you have 7 albums and a bunch more music on Soundcloud; but listen to me when I tell you, it still ain’t enough.

His latest single was in March with “Got Me F***** Up”; we’re in July so y’all see what I mean…but I shouldn’t rush good music. Premo Rice will be in Las Vegas for the Day N Vegas festival November 12-14. Get your tickets here, but only ‘premium options’ are available presently.

As a native of Prince George County (Oxon-Hill), Maryland, Premo Rice’s career began really making instrumentals although he soon realized no one was properly blessing his tracks. Obviously, the next best thing was to jump on the mic himself and now lets fast forward to present day—can’t make this up. You tell me of another producer-turned-rapper originating from brief collaborations with mediocre rappers and I’ll be your friend.

In an interview with The Baltimore Times, Premo Rice explains having played percussion throughout his developmental years then attending audio engineering school. His love for music and ear for production goes without saying beyond this point, but I’ll proceed. With musicians like Curtis Haywood and Isaac Hayes as inspiration, his beat selection and verses serve their purpose immaculately just as his predecessor’s music did. It’s neither too much or too little. Very similar to Larry June, it just doesn’t feel like he’s trying to rap…especially over these funky instrumentals. While we’re here, Premo and Larry June went crazy on “Booty Girl Club” (Early Days, 2019).

Live Forever Recordings, consisting of Premo Rice, Aye Jae, and K!ng Joe, are nice as hell collectively (see playlist provided). I’m honestly still disappointed in my complete disregard of Maryland artists besides A$AP Ant’s Marino Infantry until now. I recently ciphered through Premo Rice’s SoundCloud material for media nonexistent within Apple Music and sheeeeeshh! What I found are two necessary introductions to his discography with “Own it” and “1000waystokillem”. “Own it” (above) is out here trying to bring back the funk while “1000waystokillem” (right) is a perfect blend of Marvin Gaye and Premo talking slick simultaneously. Go tell your friends and family all about him.
