It has become trendy for artists to bring about their own festivals instead of always being an artist performing for someone else’s. Lil Wayne’s festival has steadily improved through the years and now taking a new, mandatory form as there is a change in venue. All of the previous ones were located at Champions Square near the Superdome, but the UNO Lakefront Arena setting is more authentic for the type of vibe and experience needed for this to become a more profound event. Honestly, if Wayne wanted this fest to become more polarizing and popular, similar to Tyler The Creator’s Camp FLOG GNAW and Philly’s Made in America, it shouldn’t have been near the Superdome in the CBD (central business district) in the first place. The location was nice for what is was, but if a step toward better festivals is the goal, the location was too cluttered for improvements.
Along with the new venue, Wayne is bringing out a new set of artists to take the stage. Travis Scott, Meek Mill, Megan Thee Stallion, Trey Songz, Saweetie, Kash Doll, Melii, Akbar V, and Leven Kali will all be in the city performing September 7th. In the past, we’ve been blessed with Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Drake, a Hot Boys reunion, Big Freedia, NBA Youngboy, and even Baby apologizing to Wayne for being a snake for so many years. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are special appearances, but I also don’t want to think on it much as having expectations too high may lead to a long fall back to reality. Whatever happens, it’s guaranteed to be an experience not worth missing.
