A$AP Ant, also referred to as @ygaddie, is the most unrecognized member of A$AP Mob. The collective is the most influential group of creatives in the past decade we’ve seen in; nominated for BET’s Best Group twice. The framework of the clique is too diverse to fully identify them by just music. Marino Infantry is Addie’s skate brand, currently promoting his latest release, Addie Calapari (use ASAPANT20 for $20 discount now). Earlier this year, he put out Addie Pitino & Addie Izzo. Rick Pitino, Tom Izzo, and John Calapari are a few of the top NCAA basketball coaches currently so the trilogy is justification for calling him “sensei”, right?
Majority of you only recognize A$AP Ant from his verse on Bath Salt with A$AP Rocky and Flatbush Zombies in 2012, and possibly appearances on The Cozy Tapes more recently. His verses were far ahead of their time in my opinion, and he received heavy criticism for being peculiar. Ant has been dropping good music consistently for a few years so why isn’t he ranked higher in the hierarchy of A$AP Mob? At the top is Rocky, followed by Playboi Carti then Ferg. To most, there isn’t anyone else except for Yams that is worth mentioning. I’m not trying to discredit anyone in the clique; however, Addie is underrated beyond explanation. Go listen to White vs Green Ranger off The Interlude (2018) or Infantry Mobbin’ (2019). I was never fond of listening to artists who sound like other artists. His music is refreshing instead of catchy ‘microwave rap’.
Sneakily, his producer Lord Fubu @fubarti is becoming one of my favorites. These two have locked in to create a sound that’s distinctive while being complimentary on one another’s strengths. Addie has 7 tapes out, and Lord Fubu has produced a handy amount of the sought after tracks. Give AR @AfuckingR a listen as well. He has produced tracks for YG Addie, LUCKI, ThouxanBanFauni, etc. through the years. If you’re currently searching around for new music, A$AP Ant is a mandatory add to the listening queue. After his discography and guest appearances, Ant should be a household name somewhere between Ferg and Carti. Since you’re here, Playboy Carti’s Whole Lotta Red has been hinted to release this Friday, Oct. 18th. The past repeats itself so we may be emptied handed yet again with this upcoming album from Carti.
