I'M SORRY VALEE

I owe Valee an apology for blatantly ignoring his talent until about a month ago. I was been introduced to his music, and feel lousy by how much I’m listening to him currently. It’s like I was trying to avoid the inevitable, and great talent goes unnoticed all the time. Here at Plastrd, we refer to that as asleep. Back in February or March, my guy was vouching for adding Valee’s set to our schedule on the Rolling Loud phone app. Most major festivals have been incorporating an app to provide maps of the grounds, set times, and even the ability add the particular artists on goers want to see on each day as a personal schedule. At that time, I wasn’t giving him any attention so he didn’t make the cut. On a few occasions, his songs “About U” ft. DRAM and “I Got Whatever” would come across the playlist, and while I did enjoy the music, that’s the furthest it went…two songs. Everything changed with “You & Me Both”. Valee has a trait very few artists have; knowing when to rap which allows the instrumental to do the legwork.

He frequents producers ChaseTheMoney and RioMac on all the hits throughout his discography in my opinion. Another favorite in “On The Way” illustrates Valee’s soft touch in addition to a unique flow and patois. This man really said, “My son already got racks, why would I put him in sports.” Original is an understatement as he points out how a lot of parents push their kids into things, i.e. sports in this setting, stemming from being in poverty. ChaseTheMoney came with heat on the instrumental, and finding more about Z Money after his verse was a must. The three collaborated on another hit prior, “Two 16s”, which features a catchy melody without a chorus or many breaks in each verse. I stand by Valee having the longest run-on sentence in a song in rap history. Quite the contrast from the norm with an addictive aura to it.

Valee went from being bored and making a pitstop at Guitar Center instead of GameStop in 2014/2015 to getting signed to Kanye West’s GOOD Music label in 2018. I feel like the purchase was random, and I dig. “Uninvited” ft. Calboy released one month ago is the latest product out for public consumption. It’s more of the usual fire. So far I have yet to hear a song I didn’t like through seven tapes; and through 2019, I’m not sure I will. If Kanye West decided to sign him, there’s definitely something to build on. Below is everything Valee has released officially with a link to stream. Your favorite rappers have already stolen flows from him so press play.
